Dr. Rittberg Joins Atlantic Medicine & Wellness

Shannon Rittberg, D.O., Freehold, who specializes in family medicine, has joined Atlantic Medicine & Wellness, 2399 Route 34, Wall Township, N.J. Dr. Rittberg has been practicing family medicine since 2005; and is board certified in family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine.

Before joining Atlantic Medicine & Wellness, Dr. Rittberg was in private practice for eight years at Wall Family Medical in Sea Girt and also taught medical students at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Rittberg, who grew up Manalapan, graduated from Manalapan High School where she was a varsity athlete in soccer. She graduated cum laude with a B.A in both biology and psychology from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. As a student in Rutgers, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society.

At the University of Medicine and Dentistry of N. J. (UMDNJ), Dr. Rittberg was president of the American Geriatrics Society (1999 – 2000) and vice president of the Undergraduate American Academy of Osteopathy (UAAO). She received her D.O. degree from UMDNJ School of Osteopathic Medicine, Stratford, N.J., in 2002; and completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine at Kennedy Memorial Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, serving as assistant chief resident.

Dr. Rittberg’s awards at UMDNJ include the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation, given to a female who graduates in top 10 percent of her medical school class; and the UMDNJ Achievement in Primary Care Award.

Her academic affiliations include the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, NJ Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and the National Osteopathic Women Physician’s Association.

Dr. Rittberg, the mother of two daughters, is actively involved in the community. She coaches her daughters’ soccer teams and she participates National Youth Leadership Forum as a mentor for high school students who are interested in a career in the medical field. Dr. Rittberg also lectures throughout the community on women’s health and medical conditions, such as diabetes and heart health, among other topics.
