Orthopedic Surgeons at AOSMI Conduct Clinical Research

Posted on August 2, 2011 By

The surgeons at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI) with offices in Freehold, Monroe and Wall townships believe that participating in clinical research studies is one way to advance the science of medicine, stay in the forefront of medical treatments, and make improvements in care that will ultimately benefit the patients.

Dr. Alan Nasar, the primary researcher, and Dr. Gregg Berkowitz, sub investigator, are conducting a study that tests the effectiveness of the Zimmer Natural Nail™ System manufactured by Zimmer® on patients who have had hip surgery. The two-year study Prospective Post Market Clinical Study of the Zimmer® Natural Nail™ System Cephalomedullary Nail will measure how patients are progressing at various post surgical intervals.

The Zimmer Natural Nail System is a system of intramedullary nails, screws, instruments, and other associated implants that are designed to provide stable internal fixation for fractured long bones. The nails are used for specific applications to help restore the shape of the fractured bone to its natural, pre-injured state.

The Cephalomedullary Nail was specifically designed to treat certain fractures of the femur and to minimize the amount of bone that must be removed for nail insertion. A choice of nails is available to bets match the individual anatomy
of the patient.
