The Strand and 100.1 WJRZ Host Beatles’ Anniversary Celebration

They came from England, but they never really left us. In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles’ debut performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, known as “The night that changed America,” Greater Media radio station 100.1 WJRZ and the Strand Theater are hosting a special anniversary performance The Beatles – A 50th Anniversary Celebration!

The Beatles’ celebration, the complete and unabridged performance of Abbey Road, is Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at the Strand Center for the Arts, 400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, and features Denny Laine of Wings and the Moody Blues and Terry Sylvester of the Hollies. Pine Belt Cadillac, Toms River, and Michael’s Furniture, Brick, are the sponsors.

Denny Laine, co-founder of the Moody Blues and Wings is joined by Terry Sylvester of the Hollies, as part of a celebration of the music of the Beatles and the British invasion.
Time and Rolling Stone named Abbey Road one of the 100 greatest albums of all time, with “Come Together,” “Here Comes The Sun,” “Something” and “Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End,” among its immortal songs. The evening will also feature classics from the Beatle years.

Denny Laine will sing hits he recorded with Paul McCartney and Wings, such as “Band on the Run,” “Time to Hide,” and “Live and Let Die” as well as the Moody Blues classic “Go Now.” Terry Sylvester will bring some of the Hollies’ hits such as “Bus Stop,” “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” “The Air That I Breathe,” and “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress.”

About the Strand Theater The historic Strand Theater, 400 Clifton Ave., Lakewood, was designed by world-renowned theater architect Thomas Lamb in 1922 and is listed on the N.J. and National Register of Historic Places. Today the Strand Theater is considered an anchor in the downtown for creating economic growth, providing incentives for job creation, and attracting pedestrian traffic.
