In celebration of National Health Center Week 2016 (August 7-13), OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified health center with locations in Ocean County, is sponsoring a Blood Drive at 101 Second Street, Lakewood, Friday, August 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to benefit the Central Jersey Blood Center.
Donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old or be 16 with parental consent, weigh at least 120 pounds, and present a signature ID. Remember to eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood.

OHI Is Hosting Its Annual Community Health Fair in Lakewood This August
Ocean Health Initiatives (OHI), a federally qualified health center, with offices in Lakewood, Toms River, Manahawkin, and Manchester is hosting a Community Health Fair in recognition of National Health Center Week 2016 (August 7–13). The Community Health Fair, open to the public, will take place rain or shine, Saturday, August 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Lakewood Town Square, Clifton Avenue, between Third and Fourth streets.
The Community Health Fair includes free screenings, health education and information, music, giveaways, and fun and games for the entire family. Amerigroup, Horizon NJ Health, and United Healthcare are providing health education and giveaways. Horizon NJ Health will be attending with its mobile unit to provide music; and they will be offering screenings, such Derma Scan skin self-analysis, cholesterol and blood pressure. United Healthcare is also attending with its mobile unit, Dr. Health E. Hound, a bilingual health educator; Caricature drawings, and a representative with information about NJ Family Care (Medicaid).
Dr. Theresa Berger, president and CEO of OHI, said, “Every day in our waiting rooms I witness the value of having a patient-centered health care home. When people have a place to go for regular care, they use it and stay healthier. Car Agency in Lakewood Going to the Dogs!
Kick off the “Dog Days of Summer” with a celebration of Caregivers, Canines, and Cars at the Larson Ford dealership showroom, 1150 Ocean Avenue, Lakewood, N.J.
Through the efforts of Rob Larson, vice president of Larson Ford, Inc., and Lynette Whiteman, executive director of Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, Toms River, N.J., the Larson Ford showroom is literally going to the dogs – the Caregiver Canines® therapy dogs, that is — from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., some Saturdays and Mondays, including July 23 and 25; August 13, 15, 27, and 29; September 17 and 19.
During that time, Caregiver Canine certified therapy dogs and their handlers will visit the dealership to provide their own special brand of therapy to Larson Ford customers and visitors. Larson Ford will also donate $5.00 to the nonprofit Caregiver Canines® program for every vehicle sold during the Caregivers, Canines, and Cars event.
Larson Ford, a longtime advocate of therapy dog programs throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties and a supporter of the services therapy dogs provide, is showcasing local therapy dogs as well as their cars in their Lakewood showroom to make everyone aware of the benefits of therapy dogs.

Caregiver Canines® began in 2009 as a service offered through the nonprofit agency Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey (CVCJ). This unique therapy dog program provides visits with homebound senior citizens, veterans, the disabled, and those with dementia, as well as with their caregivers, right in their own homes. The therapy dog and handler teams are all volunteers whose weekly visits bring great joy to those who are lonely and love dogs, but who are unable to care for a dog any longer due to illness, isolation, and/or financial limitations. All Caregiver Canines® therapy dog visits are provided through CVCJ completely free of charge to the recipient.

McGraw, Nat’l Sales Director of Trans American Trucking, Named to the Board of Team Walker
Craig McGraw of Marlboro, national sales director for South Plainfield-based Trans American Trucking & Warehouse, has been named to the board of trustees of Team Walker, a Jersey City nonprofit organization dedicated to giving inner-city youth constructive alternatives to the streets. He joins the board of 14 trustees overseeing a charity that provides underprivileged children a safe place to learn and play after school.
Founded in 1996 by Jersey City native Jerry Walker and his brother, Jasper, Team Walker has made a positive difference in the lives of the thousands of children who have participated in its after-school recreational and academic programs.
Jerry Walker, president and chief executive officer of Team Walker, was a standout basketball player at Seton Hall, leading the Pirates to three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament and becoming a fan favorite because of his dedication and tenacity. Before Seton Hall, Jerry Walker led Jersey City’s St. Anthony’s High School to four state basketball championships and was a key player on its 1989 national championship team.
McGraw and Jerry Walker met several years ago at a Big East basketball tournament. McGraw’s interest in Team Walker was immediately sparked. “I played basketball for the Jersey City Boys Club AAU team when I was in high school, so I always had an interest in the area, and I know how important it is to have positive programs for the kids to be involved in, which Team Walker provides,’’ McGraw said.
McGraw has been a financial donor to Team Walker ever since that first meeting with Walker, but he wanted to become more involved in the organization. This spring, McGraw inquired about a board position, toured the Team Walker’s facility in Jersey City, and visited with Jerry Walker who encouraged him to join the board.
Walker said, “Craig will definitely be an asset to Team Walker and we are looking forward to having him on the board.”
In addition to the 14 members of the board of trustees, Team Walker also has a 10-member advisory board that includes famed basketball coach P.J. Carlesimo, skipper of Seton Hall’s Pirates from 1982 to 1994.
Team Walker serves between 100 and 400 children daily. It provides role models and a structured academic and recreational environment in which to learn the importance of education, responsibility, persistence, teamwork, and unity. Team Walker’s programs include Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, as well as cultural and athletic activities and workshops for family members. In 2014, the organization opened its Team Walker Learning Center at 337 Communipaw Avenue, Jersey City.
McGraw believes in giving back to the community in many ways. He also is a member of the National Police Defense Foundation, Manalapan, N.J., which sponsors Little League teams, helps fund surgeries for underprivileged children, and sponsors Bubbles for Babies, the official charity of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Last year, he was honored by NJBIZ, a New Jersey business news publication, which named him one of its “Forty under 40’’ award winners because of his outstanding contributions and commitment to business growth, professional excellence, and community.
McGraw joined Trans American Trucking & Warehouse in 2005, after earning a B.A. in criminal justice from Seton Hall University. He became national sales manager for Trans American Trucking and Warehouse in 2010. Trans American Trucking & Warehouse been providing trucking, warehousing, packaging and export services for customers throughout the United States and Canada for 40 years.
Vaccinations Protect – Why Would Anyone Wait! LRRC Focuses on Immunizations at Safety Fair
As part of its annual Immunization Awareness campaign sponsored by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), representatives of the LRRC (Lakewood Resource and Referral Center) 212 Second Street, Suite 204, Lakewood, recently gave out more than 1,500 band-aid dispensers and 2,000 custom designed immunization stickers to attendees at the 13th annual Bnos Yaakov Safety Fair, sponsored by Bnos Yaakov Elementary School, Kent Road, Lakewood.
About 5,000 children and adults attended the Safety Fair, considered a major community event. Adults, who visited the LRRC booth, also filled out 325 raffle tickets, trying to win a $150.00 Bank of America gift card. Mrs. Leah Pam, Lakewood, won the bank gift card.
In addition, 31 people requested that the LRRC, a federally designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, contact them for further immunization support.
Mayer Hoberman, executive director of social services, said, “Up-to-date vaccinations are essential to the good health of every family member. Many diseases, such as measles, mumps, and whooping cough, and the complications from them are avoidable. Why wait?”
Children and adults met members of many public safety organizations, such as the Lakewood Fire Department, the Lakewood Police Department, Hatzolah, Chaveirim, and the LCSW (Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch). The Bnos Yaakov Safety Fair also featured an extrication drill by Hatzolah, and a N.J. State Police helicopter landing and taking off.
All proceeds benefited the Bnos Yaakov Elementary School.

Think You’re Old? Come See Vintage Cars This Sunday at the Lakewood Car Show – Free Admission for Spectators
Lakewood Historical Society and the Lakewood Heritage Commission are holding the “Sheldon Wolpin Memorial Car Show 2016” fundraiser Sunday, July 10, 2016, from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Clarence Brown Pavilion, Pine Park, (near the Lakewood Country Club), West County Line Road Lakewood, N.J. Admission for spectators is free.
The registration fee for vintage cars is $15.00, including the day of the event. The car show lineup will begin at 1:00 p.m. The proceeds of the car show will benefit renovations of the Lakewood Historical Museum.
Attendees can enjoy Oldies music by Jimmy Givens, the “Dr. of Musicology”; a train display in the Clarence Brown Pavilion by the Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders; the Lakewood P.B.A. #71 special full-sized charter bus in memory of fallen officers; and the one and only “Shalomobile.” Lakewood P. B. A. members will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers to raise money for their organization.
