OHI Opens a Pharmacy in Its Manchester Health Center

Posted on June 23, 2015 By

OHI, (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified health center (FQHC), recently opened an onsite pharmacy in its Manchester Health Center, Lakehurst Circle Center II, 686 Route 70, Lakehurst, N.J. The pharmacy is OHI’s first at the Manchester site.

Because OHI is an FQHC, only OHI patients are eligible to use the pharmacy under the discounted 340B pharmacy program; however, patients from all sites can use the services. The pharmacists at Manchester are Vijay Vohra, R.Ph (Registered Pharmacist); Maritza Perez, R.Ph.; and Theresa Bello, R.Ph., pharmacist-in-charge. Pharmacy hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Dr. Theresa Berger, CEO of OHI, said, “Getting your prescription at the same time as your doctor’s visit is a luxury most people do not have. Our patients will no longer have to go to a pharmacy to get their prescriptions filled. We are thrilled to be able to offer prescription pickup after the doctor prescribes the required medication; and with our 340B pricing tier, often for a fraction of the cost of commercial pharmacy.”

“The opening of our new pharmacy will provide much needed accessibility and convenience to vital pharmaceutical services for all OHI patients. It is important to us that we are able to give our patients the best care possible. We believe that means the most all- inclusive comprehensive care, and an onsite pharmacy provides a convenience that our patients need to consistently balance their health and their busy lives,“ said Gilbert Fleischer, MD, CMO.

Dr. Berger, said, “Currently, our Manchester pharmacy is filling prescriptions for self-pay patients only; but when we are participating in additional insurance networks, we will be able to fill those prescriptions as well.”

Business Association Raises $20,000+ at Charity Golf Outing Chaired by Attorney Robert C. Novy

Posted on June 18, 2015 By

The Ocean County Business Association (OCBA) raised $20,087 for the charity, almost double from what was raised last year, at its Marty Aronow CAREing for Children Golf Classic, held recently at the Pine Barrens Country Club, Jackson.

The golf outing was renamed the Marty Aronow CAREing for Children Golf Classic in honor of past OCBA president Marty Aronow, who passed away last year. It was Marty Aronow who was the driving force in establishing this golf outing as a fundraiser for CAREing for Children, a 501(c)3 charity OCBA has supported since 2001, that provides needy families with food and holiday gifts for their children.

Robert C. Novy, Brick, the managing partner of the law firm Novy & Associates, Manchester, who chaired the event, said, “In just six short months, most families will be celebrating the holidays; however, there are families who can’t afford to. The money we raised will help needy children and families to celebrate the holidays with food and toys.”

Last year, OCBA members personally donated more than $6,000 to purchase food boxes and hundreds of toys at trade shows and other venues. The toys were given to organizations, including the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department; State of New Jersey, Department of Children, DYFS of Toms River and Lakewood; The Hope Center, Toms River; Providence House; Seaside Heights Police Department, Ocean Inc. of Barnegat and Toms River; St. Joseph’s Church, Toms River; Morning Star Presbyterian Church, Bayville, and the Lakehurst Police Department.

Major sponsors included RAM Law Firm; Atlantic Design & Printing, Toms River; FWH Associates, Toms River; and Dr. Chet Chianese, DDS, Toms River. Novy & Associates attorney Jason L. Wyatt and Jake Mason, director of marketing for the firm, served on the golf committee.

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week 2015

Posted on June 17, 2015 By

They bite, they carry deadly diseases, and most of us hate them! But mosquitoes don’t just make you itch. Because they infect people, pets, and livestock with serious deadly diseases, such as malaria, dengue fever, West Nile Virus, chikungunya, and yellow fever, mosquitoes are often said to be the deadliest insect on earth.

This year National Mosquito Control Awareness Week is June 21 to June 27, 2015. The American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA), an international organization of nearly 2,000 public health professionals dedicated to preserving the public’s health and well-being through safe, environmentally sound mosquito control programs, was established in 1935 to educate the general public about the significance of mosquitoes and the important service provided by mosquito control workers.

Marsha Luna-Grover, a licensed owner of The Mosquito Authority, #1198, a Brick-based mosquito-repellant service for Ocean and Monmouth counties, provides information on how to minimize mosquito egg-laying sites or breeding grounds around home, identifies trouble areas, and sprays outdoor spaces so people can enjoy picnics, pool parties, barbecues, and other outdoor activities.

Lunar-Grover explains, “Mosquitoes don’t breed in shrubs; they breed in standing water. Check your gutters for any clogs and debris to eliminate standing water. Kids’ toys may gather water after rainfall so turn them over. Also change bird baths every seven days. Mosquitoes typically enjoy resting in moist shaded areas so we recommend maintaining shrubs, keeping the lawn trimmed, and removing any leaves left behind from fall and winter months. These are just a few of the helpful tips that homeowners can do to help alleviate mosquito breeding grounds and habitats.”

The Mosquito Authority suggests spraying every 21 days. “Once we spray,” Luna-Grover says, “you don’t have to slather yourself in mosquito-repellent products. You don’t have to use citronella. You just go outdoors and enjoy your backyard.”

According to the AMCA, “Bug zappers are useless against mosquitoes. Studies have shown that less than one percent of the insects killed by zappers are mosquitoes or other biting insects. The devices attract and kill beneficial or harmless insects, like moths, and have no effect on the overall mosquito population. Electronic repellers have also proven ineffective in scientific testing.”*
