Sponsorships, donations, journal ads, items for the gift auction, and premium ticket packages are available and are 100 percent tax deductible, excluding the cost of the dinner.
OHI has been providing comprehensive primary and preventative care services to Ocean County’s uninsured and underinsured populations for the past 10 years. Mitchell Elementary School, 950 N. Green Street, Little Egg Harbor.

Lakewood EMS Receives Grant for Rescue Suits
The Lakewood Township Department of Emergency Services Unit (ESSU), 1555 Pine Street, has received a grant from the Fire House Subs Restaurant Foundation, Philadelphia, for four Stearns Cold Water and Ice Rescue Suits, and two Ice Rescue Harnesses, valued at $2,150.00.
A one-piece cold water and ice neoprene rescue suit, designed for rescue operations in extreme cold water and ice conditions, provides hypothermia protection, buoyancy and insulation from the elements.
Scott Carter, EMS supervisor, said, “The addition of this cold water rescue equipment will jointly benefit the response teams of the Lakewood Police, the EMS and Volunteer Squads of Lakewood, and Hatzolah; and enable emergency personnel to make a stronger emergency response to any water-related incident in Lakewood Township.”
With the addition of the new cold-water equipment to the two suits already in service by the Lakewood Police Department, rescuers will be able to work as a more diverse team, from the rescuer on the shore-line to sending out staff by boat or jet ski to get to the individuals in distress.
The suits allow the trained rescuer to enter either onto the ice or into the water without the risk of hypothermia, which begins as soon as an individual is exposed to any temperature below normal body temperature. Hypothermia is a challenge to rescuers because the person who is outside in the elements often will not respond to commands or follow instructions and may actually injure a rescuer because the brain shuts down to preserve key body functions.
Carter said, “The grant will allow us to standardize water response through our joint response teams with two suits placed in our Water Rescue Unit and two suits located in the two front line Township ambulances. These Cold Water Rescue Suits provide the medical staff with the ability to step into an environment that would have been detrimental to the rescuer in the past.
“The suits and harnesses will allow the rescuers more time on task to retrieve someone who is stranded in the cold water environment while maintaining an emergency backup team. They will also work in conjunction with the other water capabilities on the Emergency services support unit (ESSU) to provide high quality resuscitative care to individuals in a time of crisis.”
The goal according to Lakewood First Aid Captain Moe Heinemann is, “Be prepared for any request,” which includes educating the public to “stay out of the water unless you have the proper life jackets” and remember that “No ice is safe, no matter how cold it is.”

Company Offers Free Breast Pumps to Moms
With all the costs parents have, it’s good to know that a breast pump is now covered by most major health insurance plans with no out-of-pocket costs. Acelleron Medical Products, a durable medical equipment (DME) company, helps expectant and new mothers obtain a free breast pump under the Affordable Care Act.
To get a breast pump, fully covered by insurance, parents should order the pump from an in-network DME company, such as Acelleron. Since stores like Buy Buy Baby, BabiesRUs and Target are not DME companies, it is likely that breast pumps purchased at these stores are not fully covered.
Acelleron, a New England-based company that is now expanding into New Jersey and Pennsylvania, predominantly sells post-natal and pediatric medical equipment throughout the Northeast.
Jason Canzano, director of operations for Acelleron Medical Products, said, “Our business has absolutely exploded over the past six months thanks to our great customer service, our products, and a strong partnership with Medela, the breast pump market leader.
“Moms and physicians should just fill out our breast pump order form and then fax it to us. Once we receive the order, we verify your health insurance eligibility, bill your insurance company and ship the breast pump free of charge!”
Acelleron will ship the breast pumps to mothers within 24 hours. To order a breast pump from Acelleron call 877-932-6327 or visit http://acelleron.com.
About Acelleron Medical Products: Acelleron Medical Products, a Preferred Home Health Care Company, has focused on the distribution of nebulizers, breast pumps and other medical products throughout New England since 2004. In 2013, Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services, a medical and non-medical home health care company with headquarters in Eatontown, N.J., acquired Acelleron in order to expand its home care expertise to its clients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Harmony Bank Awarded SBA Preferred Lender Status
Harmony Bank is proud to announce its approval as a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Preferred Lender, which awards Harmony a Preferred Lender Program (PLP) status. In 2013, Harmony Bank launched its SBA loan department and this new status allows the bank to determine SBA loan eligibility – streamlining the procedures for providing financial assistance to small businesses.
The SBA carefully considers and selects lenders seeking PLP status based on their record with the SBA and a demonstrated proficiency in processing and servicing SBA-guaranteed loans. Tom Lilley, Harmony Bank’s Director of SBA Lending, is leading the SBA lending department and charged with fostering SBA portfolio growth throughout the state. With more than 20 years of SBA lending experience, Lilley most recently served as business development officer and SBA lender for TD Bank, Manahawkin. He was a loan underwriter for the CIT Group and a business development officer at Commerce Bank, later acquired by TD Bank.
“To be awarded the SBA’s Preferred Lender status is a privilege and we are proud to be recognized for our lending performance and reputation,” said Harmony Bank President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Schutzer. “This distinction, coupled with Tom Lilley’s proven track record and experience, will best position Harmony Bank to efficiently streamline the SBA lending process for our current and prospective commercial customers.”
Harmony Bank, with headquarters in Jackson, N.J., is a true community bank organized in 2008 by a group of local successful businessmen with a mission to provide both consumers and small- to moderate-sized businesses a uniquely responsive and highly personal banking alternative. Currently operating branches in Jackson, Lakewood and Toms River, Harmony Bank provides an extensive product and service portfolio for consumers and businesses, including checking accounts, online banking, electronic bill pay, money market accounts, IRAs, CDs, commercial lines of credit, commercial mortgages, and SBA loans.
OHI Gives Kids a Smile on February 7
Kids should be smiling a lot on Friday, February 7, 2014, after they receive toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste donated by the American Dental Association for participating in Give Kids a Smile Day sponsored by OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified healthcare center.
In recognition of National Children’s Dental Health Month, OHI under the auspices of New Jersey Dental Association is providing free dental screenings to children 12 and under, regardless of insurance, on February 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The free screening includes a dental exam, X-rays as needed, oral healthcare instruction, fluoride treatments, and free dental hygiene materials, such as toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste.
Dentists can see children at either OHI’s Lakewood office, 101 Second Street or OHI’s Toms River office, 301 Lakehurst Road. Because space is limited, appointments must be scheduled two weeks ahead of time. School nurses will provide a consent form and a medical history form, which children must bring to their appointment. Call the OHI Call Center at 732-363-6655 to schedule an appointment in either English or Spanish.
Throughout the year, OHI offers dental cleanings and full checkups, including X-rays and other screening procedures for children and adults. Dentists are available at the Lakewood and Toms River sites Monday through Friday, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
American Dental Association’s Give Kids a Smile program, now celebrating its 12th year, is designed to raise awareness about the importance of dental care and provides oral health education to all children despite their economic status.
