How HR Professionals CAN Take a Seat at the Table and Stay There!
For years, HR professionals have asked for and often complained about not having a seat at the proverbial “table.” In today’s economy, it is clear that HR practitioners can no longer wait for a seat to be pulled out for them. “We must take it!” says Cristina Amyot, SPHR*, MHRM*, president of EnformHR, an HR consulting firm, Red Bank.
Amyot, a Jackson resident, willpresent “Take Your Seat at the Table,” Monday, October 24, 2011, 1:45 p.m. at the Garden State Council’s 20th Annual SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) Conference and Expo, Atlantic City Convention Center, Atlantic City, N.J. The Conference runs from Sunday, October 23 through Tuesday, October 25. To register, visit www.gscshrmconference.org. This presentation is approved for Strategic Credit.
Amyot, a sought-after speaker on HR topics, says, “As with any profession, but perhaps more with HR than others, getting and keeping a seat at the executive table is an ongoing challenge. But it’s one that, after years of study, preparation and experience, we are ready for.”
The session will show attendees how to take a leadership position in the organization and position HR as a key strategic driver. It will expose the HR professional to the new needs and some old needs of business owners, executives and line managers. This session will give HR professionals the tools to understand and address company “officials” in a way that gets HR heard. Finally, attendees will learn how to keep the
seat they have earned and continue to show value to the organization.

How HR Can Turn Turmoil into a Strategic Advantage and Lead Through Chaos
As a result of the economy, HR professionals, the key members of the management teams in companies, are dealing with almost daily turmoil in such areas as health care legislation and financial reforms, among others. The results of all this uncertainty often lead to chaos and confusion. While chaos and confusion will probably become
more prevalent, so will opportunities for strategic advantages.

Harmony Bank Closes on $3.5 Million of Preferred Stock
Harmony Bank, with headquarters in Jackson, N.J., announced today that it has closed on a $3.5 million sale of preferred stock to the U.S. Department of the Treasury as part of the U.S. Treasury’s Small Business Lending Fund program, established by Congress under the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael A. Schutzer, said, “We are pleased that Harmony Bank has been approved for the U.S. Treasury Small Business Lending Fund program. The capital that we have received under this program will allow us to continue to serve small business-sized clients in Ocean and Monmouth counties through our commercial lending and owner occupied real estate lending programs.
“For small community banks, such as Harmony, access to the equity markets has been quite limited; therefore, raising new capital to support our balance sheet growth has not been an attractive option in the past. Providing equity capital to healthy community banks, like ours, should result in continued lending to the small business community, which should eventually lead to job growth in that sector.”
According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, small businesses employ roughly one-half of all Americans and account for about 60 percent of gross job creation. Mr. Schutzer noted, “Since Harmony Bank has been fortunate enough to grow its qualified commercial loan balances well over 10 percent relative to the base period, Harmony Bank will initially pay a 1 percent dividend rate on the Series A Preferred Stock, which is the lowest rate available under the program. The preferred securities will be accounted for as a component of Harmony Bank’s regulatory Tier 1 capital.”
Harmony Bank is a commercial bank, incorporated and chartered by the State of New Jersey with headquarters in Jackson, N.J. Harmony Bank opened September 2, 2008. Its deposits are insured by the FDIC. In addition to its headquarters, Harmony Bank also operates a full service branch in Lakewood, N.J.
Harmony Bank’s primary lending focus is real estate finance, as well as loans to small businesses and professionals in its local market area. Harmony Bank provides a complete menu of commercial products including lines of credit, term loans, commercial mortgages and SBA loans. Harmony Bank also offers personal savings and checking accounts including interest-bearing free checking and other competitive interest-bearing accounts, such as Money Markets, IRAs and CDs.
Additional information can be found at www.myharmonybank.com. For further information, contact Michael Schutzer at 732-364-0088.

Total Joint Center of New Jersey Receives Certification from the Joint Commission*
Dr. Alan S. Nasar, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at ASOMI (Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute), Freehold, N.J., and medical director of The Total Joint Center, has announced that The Total Joint Center of New Jersey at CentraState Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ in the areas of knee and hip as part of the Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification Program, and is in compliance with national standards.
The Joint Commission, known for its rigorous evaluations before it issues certifications and accreditation, only issues its approval for orthopedic joint replacement programs that have established a well-run disease-management program. The Total Joint Center of New Jersey is the only center in Monmouth County to achieve disease specific certification in joint replacement.
Dr. Nasar, who has been instrumental in developing and directing The Total oint Center of New Jersey, notes that he joined CentraState in 2006 with the mission to create a center of excellence in joint replacement. Having recently completed a fellowship in joint replacement surgery, Dr. Nasar traveled throughout the United States to learn from other major joint centers and hospitals.
With knowledge of best practices he gleaned from those experiences, Dr. Nasar worked with a team of professionals at CentraState Hospital, including Kim Kelly, RN, MS, NEA-BC**, vice president, clinical services; John T. Gribbin, FACHE**, president and chief executive officer; Richard Mackesy, vice president, strategic planning and business development; and Dana Higley, BSW**, patient coordinator for The Total Joint Center of New Jersey at CentraState. Together, this team worked with Dr. Nasar to plan, develop, and fine tune The Total Joint Center of New Jersey so that they could apply for JCAHO* accreditation.
Dr. Nasar said, “After five years of work, we have finally achieved our goal and are very proud of our accomplishment. We seek to continue the goals of quality improvement and excellence for the benefit of our patients and the community. Patients should not feel the need to travel to ‘name brand’ centers to get excellent care in joint replacement. We do that right here!”
Because this certification demonstrates that the Total Joint Center has achieved national standards for health care quality and safety, patients can rest assured that the Total Joint Center of New Jersey has achieved the highest certification possible in joint replacement and is dedicated to a process that improves quality and outcomes and decreases complications.
The Total Joint Center is made up of board-certified orthopedic surgeons, specially trained orthopedic nurses, patient care technicians, physical and occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers and case managers.
Dr. Nasar holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science in New York City. He became interested in artificial joint design while receiving specialized training in biomechanics and biomaterials at Cooper Union. Dr. Nasar participated in an additional year of specialization in minimally invasive joint replacement surgery in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is particularly interested in advanced pain management techniques that, combined with minimally invasive surgery, can lead to less discomfort and a more rapid return to work and leisure activities.
