New Jersey Health Care Network Meeting April 11
The monthly meeting of NJ Health Care Network, a free organization for anyone in the health care industry, is Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Absecon Manor, 1020 Pitney Road, Absecon, N.J., 08201.
Lisa Gallicchio, the director of community relations for Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services who formed NJ Health Care Network, said about 75 people usually attend. The NJ Health Care Network provides an opportunity to build relationships among health care professionals, market events, and promote business.

Can You Feel the Love? You Will during BCCT’s Performance of The Lion King Jr. at the Strand Theater
You know the story, characters, and songs by heart. Experience it all when BCCT (Brick Children’s Community Theater) presents The Lion King Jr., a 90-minute musical adapted from the highest-grossing show in Broadway history, at the historic Strand Theater, 400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, on Friday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 1 at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m.
Ticket prices are $12 for children, 12 and under; $15 for all others, plus a $1.50 service fee per ticket. The show runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. BCCT’s The Lion King Jr. is under the direction of BCCT founder and 25-year veteran Director Heather Campagno. Scenic Designer and Technical Director Ian Kearns set the stage with the impressive Pride Rock and the extensive Savannah. Costume designers Kathy Mulvaney and Lorraine Brown are dressing over 50 actors with hundreds of costumes. Choreographer and BCCT alumni Logan Jones, Lighting Designer Bill Simonelli, Chris Everett, and the Strand technical crew, and over 60 parent volunteers round out the team.
Robert DiGrigoli and Anthony Zarrilli have designed and constructed the animal puppets for the iconic opening scene Circle of Life where the animals of the Pride Lands are summoned by Rafiki to baby Simba’s royal presentation. Scheduled to grace the Strand stage at the end of the month are two larger than life elephants, high-rise giraffes, three rhinos, four zebras, four leopards, eighteen antelope, a pride of lions and an amazingly talented cast of young people.
Robert DiGrigoli spent much of his career constructing sets for major feature films, including Enchanted, The Perfect Murder, Home Alone 2, and Fatal Attraction. After retiring, DiGrigoli began working with BCCT designing sets for many of their summer productions, including Wizard of Oz, Annie, Shrek and Willy Wonka. Anthony Zarrilli is the founder and owner of Zarrilli Homes, LLC and has specialized in building custom modular homes along the Jersey Shore for almost 20 years.
Both DiGrigoli and Zarrilli make it their business to give back to the community in which they live. Brick residents, both are avid supporters of BCCT whole-heartedly giving of their time, talent and treasure. Digrigoli and his wife Kathy have generously awarded almost $20,000 in performing arts education scholarships to children ages 5-18 over the past several years. Zarrilli Homes, LLC is a major sponsor and Zarrilli and his family are actively involved in the organization, both on stage and behind the scenes.
The show features Nicholas Bryant as Rafiki, Grace Zarrilli as Zazu, Jackson Mizell as Mufasa, Jared Pesciotta as Scar, Gabe Amoroso as young Simba, Marleigh Frantz as young Nala, Stephen Pasch as Simba, and Elaina Cainzos as Nala. Megan Brown, Gianna Avenoso, and Searra VanDerveer are cast as Scar’s henchman hyenas and Vincenzo Faruolo and Ella Zarrilli as the dynamic duo Pumbaa and Timon.

The LRRC Stresses the Importance of HPV Vaccine at PTO Meeting
The LRRC (Lakewood Resource and Referral Center), 212 Second Street, a federally-designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, recently conducted an educational and entertaining immunization presentation for parents and students during a PTO meeting at the Ella G. Clarke Elementary School, 455 Manetta Avenue, Lakewood.
The LRRC arranged the presentation focusing on the importance of the HPV vaccine as part of an ongoing CDC (Centers for Disease Control) sponsored campaign that focuses on raising immunization awareness and compliance.
Nurse Sue Grill-Levy of CHEMED (Center for Health Education, Medicine and Dentistry), with which the LRRC is affiliated, spoke to attendees about the importance of being immunized against HPV, while Oscar Orellana, the school’s guidance counselor, translated the presentation into Spanish.
James Gavilanes and Miles Thorn of Carnival Parties treated parents and children to an interactive, bilingual, entertaining, and informative immunization-themed magic show to demonstrate the importance and effectiveness of vaccinations in preventing diseases.
Representatives of the LRRC distributed customized T-shirts, produced specifically for the PTO event, bearing the message “Support the Fight against Cancer.” Additionally, attendees were provided with bilingual educational literature about HPV and how to prevent it. All parents in attendance completed a questionnaire about their previous awareness of and compliance with CDC recommendations regarding the HPV vaccine. Fourteen parents asked the LRRC to contact them to help set up appointments to have their children immunized against HPV.
Mayer Hoberman, the LRRC executive director of social services, said the event was very successful. “Many of the parents at the event informed us that they were previously unaware that there is an HPV vaccine at all,” Mr. Hoberman said. “Virtually all attendees whose children have not yet been immunized against HPV stated that they now intend to get their children vaccinated. Our presentation clearly had a significant impact.”

OHI’s Mobile Medical Unit to Host Head Start Dental Exams in Ocean County
Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), in partnership with the Head Start development program of O.C.E.A.N., Inc., has announced that the OHI mobile medical unit will be visiting several local Head Start program sites March 29 through April 5, 2017, to conduct dental exams, specifically for the children in Head Start programs. Lakewood Township Appoints Komsa Director of Human Resources
The Lakewood Township Committee recently appointed Patricia Komsa, Brick, the director of human resources for the Human Resource Department, a new department and administrative position deemed critical in managing more than 400 township employees. As HR director, Komsa will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of employees, training, and compliance, among other duties.
Komsa, the former executive director of the Lakewood Development Corporation (LDC) and UEZ coordinator, has worked in the township for almost 18 years. As executive director of the UEZ and LDC, Komsa was responsible for such daily operations as supervising personnel, accounting, training, program and grant management, and compliance.
She holds a B.A. in Business Administration and an M.B.A from Georgian Court University, a M.A.S. (Master of Administrative Science) from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Duke University, Continuing Studies.
Komsa is a member of the MODC (Monmouth Ocean Development Council); a member of the board of directors of the Ocean County Private Industry Council; chairwoman of the Ocean County Workforce Development Board, serving on the Business Services and Workforce Development Committee and the Strategic Planning Work Group; and a member of the Business Advisory Council, Georgian Court University, School of Business and Digital Media, where she is an adjunct professor. She is also serves on the board of directors of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, co-chairing the Legislative/Business and Economic Growth Committee. Komsa is the treasurer of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 39.
LRRC Promotes Immunizations at YTT Expo
An estimated 2,500 people, who recently attended the YTT (Yeshiva Tiferes Torah) Expo in the Fountain Ballroom at 725 Vassar Avenue, Lakewood, had an opportunity to learn about immunizations and their importance from representatives of the LRRC (Lakewood Resource and Referral Center).
One mission of the LRRC, a federally designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, 212 Second Street, Suite 204, Lakewood, is to promote the importance of complying with CDC (Centers for Disease Control) immunization recommendations, and raise immunization awareness and compliance rates.
As part of this ongoing campaign, LRRC representatives distributed complimentary tote bags with the message “Help Fight Vaccine-Preventable Diseases,” as well as CDC-recommended immunization schedules and literature explaining the importance of vaccinating children.
In addition, 387 attendees completed questionnaires asking about their levels of awareness of and compliance with recommended immunizations. All attendees who completed questionnaires were entered in a raffle to win a $150.00 bank card.
Many of the attendees expressed interest in the LRRC and its pro-immunization message, and more than a dozen parents asked the LRRC to contact them for further immunization support.
Mayer Hoberman, Executive Director of Social Services at the LRRC, said, “Maintaining up-to-date immunizations is essential to the health and well-being of the entire community. Many diseases and their complications are avoidable simply by getting vaccinated. Why would anyone choose not to protect themselves and their children?”
