100.1 WJRZ “Share the Joy” Drive – Public Fills Tractor-trailer with Holiday Donations

Posted on December 12, 2016 By

The Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County rolled up in their classic cars and delivered a $500 check to Ocean County Hunger Relief. Doug Hynoski, a teacher at Hooper Avenue Elementary School, Toms River, held a drive and collected over 1,883 food items. One classroom alone collected 445 items. FedEx in Lakewood showed up with a FedEx truck loaded with food donations that they collected in their office. A Seaside Heights resident wrote a check for $500 to Ocean County Hunger Relief, and then wrote another $500 check to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County!

For two days this November, people from Monmouth and Ocean counties came out in droves to make donations to Ocean County Hunger Relief and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County (BBBSOC) during the “Share the Joy,” the annual live radio broadcast drive hosted by Beasley Media Group, Inc. radio station 100.1 WJRZ.

It was their generosity that the radio station 100.1 WJRZ was able to completely fill a tractor-trailer on at the Perlmutter Family ShopRite, Toms River, with $3,095 cash/checks; $225 in gift cards; 13 pallets of food; nine turkeys; 15 pallets of clothing; and two pallets of toys.

The Military Club of Toms River North High School volunteered all weekend! They were experts at boxing up all the donations and always lending us a helping hand as needed.

Sue Sedivic, the executive director of BBBS said, “Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County is so grateful for the support of the community and the donations received during ‘WJRZ Share the Joy.’ The toys we received will be given to our children at our holiday party and to the families so they can put them under the tree for Christmas morning.  There are no words for the happiness that WJRZ and the community has brought to our children during this holiday season.”

Carol Latif of Ocean County Hunger Relief, Toms River, “With the help of our dear friends at WJRZ, we are able to assist families that are unable to provide themselves. The donations that were received will benefit families even after the holidays.”

WJRZ 100.1 Program Director and Afternoon Drive Host Matt Knight said, “Listeners of 100.1 WJRZ came through in a time of need for those less fortunate than themselves during our “Share the Joy” broadcasts.  Knowing that the donations benefited folks right in their neighborhood is a driving force behind this food/toy/clothing drive and we’re so proud of them for their support and generosity to people they may never meet in person.”

“Share the Joy” charity collection drive was sponsored by Pepsi, Statewide Solar, Michael’s Furniture and Perlmutter Family ShopRite. For more information, contact Marie Daley, promotions director of 100.1 WJRZ, at 609-597-1100 Ext. 204 or visit www.WJRZ.com.

Contest Winners of Rotem Dental Care’s Candy Buy-back Program Announced

Posted on December 6, 2016 By

What would you do with more than 400 pounds of candy? At Rotem Dental Care, they send it to U.S. troops serving overseas who could use a sweet treat from home! Toms River High School North ROTC volunteers helped load 406 pounds of candy for American Recreational Military Service (ARMS)  http://www.supportarms.org/.

Radio stations 100.1 WJRZ and WOBM also were at Rotem Dental Care, 355 Lakehurst Road, Toms River, to help promote the 12th annual Halloween Candy Buy-back Contest, which has rewarded children and individual classrooms for donating some of their candy stash.

Katie Barrett, age 7, and Richie Barrett, age 13, who both participated in last year’s buy-back contest, brought in 14 pounds of candy and won $50 for bringing in the most candy, by weight. Second grader Katie Barrett was thrilled to win and said (to the soldiers), “Have a great time eating candy!” Eight grade student Richie Barrett, who is also a member of the Garden State Youth Orchestra, said, “Thank you for your service.”

The Herbertsville Elementary Early Act Club for students ages 10 to 11, and their teachers Cherylan Shea and Debbie Osborne, won $400 for donating 138 pounds of candy. They will use the money to pay for shipping of their collection of used crayons that they donate to The Crayon Initiative, which recycles used crayons and donates them to special needs patients at St. Jude’s Hospital.

Stacie Pelo, said, “Thank you for giving us the land of the free.” CJ said, “We appreciate what you do; here’s our candy.” Carson McCue said, “Thank you for risking your lives for our country.” Ryan Pelo, said, “Thanks for keeping us safe.” And Averi Kapuscinski said, “Thank you for being away from your families to protect our country.”
