Greater Media radio station the WRAT (95.9), Lake Como, is holding its annual Thanksgiving season drive Broadcast for the People of New Jersey on November 23 and 24 to help local New Jersey people. Employees of the WRAT are hoping to fill a 55-foot tractor-trailer with items to be donated to three charities.

The WRAT’s live Broadcast for the People of New Jersey will take place at Shoprite, Route 66, Neptune, on November 23 from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, and again November 24 from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Doug Sjonvall, promotions director for WRAT, says, “Although this is the 17th year we have conducted this program, we have filled 19 tractor-trailers. In 2012 after Sandy, we collected the equivalent of three trucks that year.”

Non-perishable food items (no glass) will go to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean counties; new or gently used clothing will be donated to the Family Resource Associates; and toiletries (wash cloths, tooth brushes, toothpaste) will go to Holiday Express. Monetary donations are always welcome.

Last year the Rat collected almost 2,000 tooth brushes and 350 tubes of tooth paste; 9,123 pounds of clothes; 15, 622 pounds of food, and 268 frozen turkeys. Monetary donations and gift cards totaled $1700.

A WRAT promo team and on-air personality Gotts will be available November 23 and 24 to accept donations at Brave New World, 1272 Hooper Ave, Toms River, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Broadcast for the People is sponsored by Pepsi, and Coors Light/Shore Point Distributing.

On Wednesday, November 25, the tractor-trailer will be taken to the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties to be unloaded, starting at 9:00 a.m. Foodbank volunteers, 10 volunteer cadets from McGuire Air Force Base, and seven people from the local Pepsi distributor will be helping the Rat Pack unload the donations.
