Beasley Media Group radio station WRAT (95.9), Lake Como, is holding its 18th annual Thanksgiving season charity drive Broadcast for the People of New Jersey on November 21 and 22 to help local New Jersey people. Staffers of the WRAT are hoping to fill a 55-foot tractor-trailer with items that will be donated to three charities.

The WRAT’s live Broadcast for the People will take place at ShopRite, Route 66, Neptune, November 21 from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, and again November 22 from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Doug Sjonvall, promotions director for WRAT, says, “This is the 20th truck the WRAT will fill in its 18th year conducting the program. Two additional trucks were filled with donations in 2012 after Sandy.”

Non-perishable food items (no glass) and frozen turkeys will be donated to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean counties; new or gently used clothing will be donated to Family Resource Associates to supply their thrift stores; and stocking stuffers, such as warm socks, washcloths, deodorant, playing cards, and crayons will be donated to Holiday Express. Monetary donations are always welcome.

Last year the WRAT collected 9,000 pounds of clothes, more than 14,000 pounds of food, and over 200 frozen turkeys. Monetary donations and gift cards totaled $1700.

Satellite locations are available for those who cannot make it to ShopRite in Neptune. Non-perishable donations will be accepted Ashley Home stores on Route 35, Eatontown, and at the Freehold Raceway Mall prior to November 21, or at Brave New World, 1272 Hooper Ave, Toms River, where a WRAT promo team and on-air personality Gotts will be available November 21 and 22 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, November 23, the tractor-trailer will be unloaded at the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, starting at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers from the Foodbank, cadets from McGuire Air Force Base, the local Pepsi distributor, and Shore Point Distributing will be helping the unload the donations.

Broadcast for the People is sponsored by Pepsi, Ashley Home Store, ShopRite of Neptune, Brave New World, and Coors Light/Shore Point Distributing.
