New Family Practice Opens in Union

Dr. Kafilat Adewunmi, has opened VAMA Medical Health Center, a private family practice for patients of all ages from newborns to the geriatric population, at 2333 Morris Avenue, Suite A-117, Union, N.J. Services include well child care, physicals, gynecologic exams, chronic disease management, EKG and spirometry, drug screening, and onsite bloodwork, among others. Dr. Adewunmi’s hospital affiliations are St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, N.J.

Before opening her practice, Dr. Adewunmi served as the clinical director at seven school-based clinical sites in Newark for the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center, a FQHC*, Perth Amboy, N.J., where her duties ranged from family medicine, to GYN, pediatrics, internal medicine, supervision of physicians and nurse practitioners, administration, and community outreach.

After graduating from Orange High School, Orange, N.J., and Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, N.J. with a B.S. in biology and minors in chemistry and psychology, Dr. Adewunmi graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM), Old Westbury, N.Y., with a doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine and an M.A. in Business Administration. She completed her residency in family medicine at UMDNJ (University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey), School of Osteopathic Medicine, Stratford, N.J. She is board certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. She is also a Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider.

In 2015, Dr. Adewunmi received the Lester Z. Lieberman Humanism in Healthcare Award from The Healthcare Foundation of N.J. Other honors include Dedicated Service Award, Student National Medical Association; Certificates of Appreciation from the Coalition for Community Well-Being, Inc. and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Teaching Assistant; and honors in Pharmacology, Family Medicine, and Ethics & Law from NYCOM.
