Toms River Man Named to First N.J. CPA Honoree List
The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) announced that Kenneth B. Shapiro, CPA/PFS, CFP®*, Toms River, president of Shapiro Financial Security Group, Inc., Hazlet, has been named one of six top financial planners in New Jersey. Shapiro will be spotlighted in the 2014 September/October edition of New Jersey CPA magazine.
The selection of the inaugural CPA honorees was based on their “continuing impact on the accounting profession in the Garden State and beyond,” including career expertise, key accomplishments at their respective firms, NJSCPA engagement, and community service.
Shapiro, a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), holds designations as a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). He has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial industry in the public, private, and educational sectors. His firm, Shapiro Financial Security Group, Inc., Hazlet, offers investment management services, comprehensive fee-based financial planning, and tax preparation services.
In 2013, Shapiro was named one of “50 Over 50” by NJSCPA, which honored accounting veterans for their ongoing contributions to the CPA profession, the Society and the community. He received the Heart of Financial Planning award in 2013 from the Financial Planning Association of New Jersey (FPANJ), which recognizes professionals, financial planning firms, and FPA® chapters or organizations that contribute and give back to the public and financial planning community. In 2009, Shapiro was named the Community Volunteer of the Year by the NJSCPA for his more than 100 hours of helping others.
For the State Chapter of the NJSCPA, Shapiro serves as a member of the Investment Committee, the CPA Help Center where he gives free financial advice to those experiencing financial crises, and is past chair of the Financial Literacy and Personal Financial Planning Committees. He is active locally, serving as secretary for the Monmouth Ocean County Chapter of the NJSCPA, co-chair of the Personal Finance Committee, and member of the Elder Care Committee. He is a past treasurer of the Chapter.
Shapiro also serves as chairman of the Education and Professional Development Committee, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the State Chapter of the Financial Planning Association of NJ. Shapiro previously served four years as treasurer for the Association.
Shapiro has helped to organize the Monmouth Ocean County NJSCPA’s participation in the annual Bowl-A-Thon to raise funds for the Junior Achievement Financial literacy program and has spent time educating students about the merits of saving and ways to stay fiscally healthy.
