Newly Formed Lakewood Police Foundation Elects Its First Board of Directors

The newly formed Lakewood Police Foundation (LPF), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, elected its first board of directors, with Lakewood Police Chief Robert Lawson as an ex-officio member.  The chairman is David M. Fried, who served as a member and chairman of the N.J. Police and Firemen’s Retirement System from 1964-1984.

Other officers include Rabbi Moishe Ehrman, treasurer, who is the deputy coordinator of the Lakewood Office of Emergency Management; and Larry S. Loigman, counselor and founder of the LPF.  Other directors are Dr. Richard H. Roberts, president and CEO of URL Pharma; and Enrique Percal, owner of Percal Investments.  

The mission of the LPF is to encourage community support, recognize outstanding service, and increase the safety and law enforcement capabilities of law enforcement personnel. The LPF does not directly solicit funds, but all donations are accepted.

David Fried says, “This organization was founded by a small group of people who love this community and who appreciate the men and women on the job for their professionalism and dedication to their mission toward the safety and well-being of the people they serve.

“Lakewood’s police force is one of the best in New Jersey and we want it to stay this way; however, we recognize the economic slow-down we are going through and wish to be able to supplement, not replace, your ability to provide the equipment they need to provide their services to the community while also providing a safe environment for the people of Lakewood and for themselves.”

Dr. Kim Gives a Talk about Acupuncture and Pain Management at Wellness Fair

Dr. Kristie Y. Kim, a board-certified physiatrist at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI) of Freehold, Monroe, and Wall townships, is giving a talk entitled “Acupuncture and Pain Management,” Saturday, May 14, from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. at the Monroe Wellness and Family Fun Health Fair at CentraState’s Medical Offices in Monroe, 312 Applegarth Road, Monroe, N.J., from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Local Photographer Chosen as Official Image-Maker for N.J. Hall of Fame

Gellman Images has been selected as the official image-maker for the fourth year in a row for the 2011 New Jersey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which will take place at the N.J. Performing Arts Center, One Center Street, Newark, N.J., Sunday, June 5, 2011. 

Gellman Images will be responsible for all still images and behind-the-scenes video for the New Jersey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony; the imaging content for the satellite museums slated for the N.J. State Museum, Newark Gallery; and a mobile unit that will travel statewide.

The 2011 inductees are Tony Bennett, Governor Brendan Byrne, Mary Higgins Clark, Franco Harris, Leon Hess, Queen Latifah, Martha Stewart, Joe Theismann, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, among others.

Gary Gellman, 43, founder and owner of Gellman Images, Monmouth County, says, “We are honored to align ourselves with such a great group of  individuals from New Jersey. The N.J. Hall of Fame events over the last several years have been phenomenal and we believe this year’s will be even greater.”

Save the Date to Showcase Your Business at Lakewood Regional Business and Industry Expo

The Lakewood Development Corporation and the Lakewood Industrial Commission are hosting the third annual business-to-business Lakewood Regional Business and Industry Expo, Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Lake Terrace Hall, in the Lakewood Industrial Park, 1690 Oak Street, from noon to 5:00 p.m. 

Last year more than 90 businesses exhibited and about 1,000 people attended the Expo throughout the day, enjoying  prizes, screenings, special offers, give-a-ways and free business seminars sponsored by Lakewood’s UEZ program.  Because of last year’s success, the township is preparing for more than 150 exhibitors and even larger crowds. Admission and ample parking are free.

Vendors who would like to promote their business and commerce B-to-B as well as reach the general public are encouraged to attend.  Restaurants and food establishments are welcome as exhibitors. 

Patricia Komsa, executive director of the Lakewood Development, says, “This is a great opportunity for area-wide businesses to showcase their goods and services at a reasonable price.”

The Expo sponsors to date are Greater Media Newspapers, Greater Media Radio Stations (The WRAT, 95.9 and Magic 100.1), the BlueClaws, Monmouth Ocean Development Council, Gem Ambulance, and Jersey Shore Business Leaders.

Clean Energy Company Present to Lakewood Twp Committee May 26

Elcon Energy, Haifa, Israel, with facilities in Italy, has shown interest in locating its U.S. headquarters to Lakewood, N.J. Elcon produces clean energy from pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and industrial wastewater.

Elcon uses clean technology and recycles its own output of steam energy to create a sustainable loop. In other words, the process is looped so the energy produced powers its own system. Excess energy is then circulated to the electrical grid, such as JCP&L.

Representatives from Elcon will be in attendance at the Lakewood Township Committee meeting May 26 to make a presentation to the public and explain its process. The public is invited to attend to learn about Elcon and its plans.  A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Paw-ty Time for Dogs – Annual Bark in the Park Event

 “Every dog must have his day.” – Jonathan Swift.  It’s “Paw-ty” time for your dog! If every dog must have his day, make it a special one for your furry friend. Take your pet to the 7th annual “Bark in the Park,” sponsored by Seaview Orthopaedics and Larson Ford, at FirstEnergy Park, 2 Stadium Way, Lakewood, N.J., Saturday, May 14, 2011, from noon to 3:00 p.m., rain or shine. This is the time when all dog owners, their families, and their dogs are invited to attend a baseball game together.

MAGIC 100.1 and WRAT 95.9 FM, two GreaterMedia radio stations, are hosting “Bark in the Park,” and a Doggie Adoption Showcase at a Lakewood BlueClaws’ baseball game to help find homes for Monmouth and Ocean County cats and dogs, aided by local animal shelters.

Before the game begins, pets can enjoy a variety of free activities, such as Silly Dog Tricks and “Win It in a Mutt Minute.”  Dog owners can also bring their leashed family dog to a special seating area for the baseball game that day.

The baseball game begins at 4:05 p.m. To enjoy the game with their furry friends and the annual Pet Parade, which takes place on the field, fans must purchase a $2.00 “BluePaws Pass” for each dog admitted plus a ticket to the game ($8.00 for general admission to the lawn area; $11.00 adults, and $8.00 children and Seniors for a special seating area). 

The money raised from BluePaws Passes will help purchase food and medicine, and contribute to the upkeep of Jersey Shore Animal Center, a nonprofit animal shelter in Brick which takes in abandoned, unwanted, and abused animals; and works to provide them a new home through pet adoption.

Watering stations are available.  All animals must be on a leash and have up-to-date shots.
