Lakewood DJ Donating His Time at Township’s Halloween Event
Lakewood resident Jimmy Givens, a ’70 graduate of Lakewood High School, has volunteered his time and talents to provide music and sound effects for Lakewood Township’s Halloween event, Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Lakewood Town Square, Clifton Avenue and Third Street, Lakewood, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Givens, a DJ who specializes in the greatest hits from 1940s through the 1970s, was one of Lakewood’s last hotel musicians, playing drums at the Capital Hotel in the Phil Schilling Band.
The music for Lakewood’s Halloween event will include such favorites as “Monster Mash,” “The Blob” from “The Addams Family,””Frankenstein,” “Ghostbusters, ” and many more. For more information visit http://www.jimmygivens.com/
Other volunteers Halloween evening include members of the Lakewood High School PALS program (Pupil Assisted Learning Services) who will be on hand to help with face and pumpkin painting until 6:00 p.m.
At 6:00 p.m. a costume parade for children ages 10 and under will take place on the stage. Parents and friends will have an opportunity to take pictures; and all children will receive a Trick or Treat bag with candy donated by members of the Lakewood Police Department, the Lakewood Fire Department, and the Lakewood EMS. Shop Rite of Lakewood donated all the Trick or Treat bags.
According to Jeff Shapiro, supervisor of recreation for Lakewood Township, the Township Committee, police, firemen, and EMS created this event to ensure the safety of children. Shapiro says, “Everybody is a winner in Lakewood. Children will receive candy so they don’t have to go door-to-door throughout the Township in the dark.”
