A New Lakewood Leaf Pickup Truck – Coming to Your Neighborhood Soon

Posted on January 23, 2018 By

Instead of ten minutes, the two new Lakewood Township leaf pickup trucks will suck up all your leaves in fifteen seconds! Patrick Donnelly, the director of the Lakewood Department of Public Works (DPW), has announced that the new leaf pickup trucks should be operational with the next couple of weeks.

Mayor Ray Coles said, “This new equipment will bring more efficiency to the department without having to add staff.”

Instead of multiple pieces of equipment and multiple staff, these trucks are operated by one person, similar to the automated trash pickup trucks that use a single claw. The leaf pickup trucks will run in two shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

To make sure the leaf pickup truck can vacuum up all your leaves, be sure no branches are attached to those leaves. Do NOT put leaves in bags! Also do not put leaf piles near your bulk pickup items. As a safety precaution, rake the leaves in a neat pile away from storm drains and curb corners.
