Outreach and Enrollment Team at OHI to Host Health Insurance Education Sessions this October

The Outreach and Enrollment Department of OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), a federally qualified health center, is hosting four free health insurance education sessions this October at the Toms River Library, 101 Washington St., Toms River, N.J., in preparation for the 2016 open enrollment in the Affordable Care Act.

OHI outreach and enrollment associates Carmen Lopez and Sasha Andino along with representatives from several insurance companies will explain what to expect during the upcoming open enrollment period. Enrollment for 2016 begins November 1, 2015, and ends January 31, 2016. All sessions are open to the public, and no registration is needed.

Presentations from insurance companies will begin promptly.

October 26, 2015, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Oscar Insurance Corporation of New Jersey

October 27, 2015, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., UnitedHealthCare

Important Dates for 2016 Enrollment: Plans and prices for 2016 will be available to preview the third week of October 2015. Open enrollment in a 2016 Marketplace plan begins November 1, 2015, and coverage can start as soon as January 1, 2016. December 15, 2015, is the last day to enroll in or change plans for new coverage that begins January 1, 2016.

On January 1, 2016, coverage starts for those who enroll or change plans by December 15. January 15, 2016, is the last day to enroll in or change plans for new coverage to start February 1, 2016. Open Enrollment ends January 31, 2016. Enrollments or changes between January 16 and January 31 take effect March 1, 2016. If you don’t enroll in a 2016 plan by January 31, 2016, you cannot enroll in a health insurance plan for 2016 unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
