Golf Outing to Benefit Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders

CRA (Corporate Resource Alliance), a New Jersey contact and referral group for business executives, is hosting a golf outing to benefit Embrace Kids Foundation, Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Pebble Creek Golf Club, 40 Route 537 East, Colts Neck, New Jersey.

Embrace Kids Foundation supports the non-medical needs of children with cancer or blood disorders, such as sickle cell disease. The Foundation provides direct assistance and the resources that would not be available otherwise to help support families and hospital-based programs. All of the services provided are free.

The fee per golfer is $165.00 ($600.00 for a foursome) and includes a continental breakfast, a barbecue lunch, golf contests, and door prizes. Lunch only is $35.00. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.; shot gun start with scramble format starts at 8:00 a.m.

31st Conference on Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities

If you were disabled, would you want to be left out? Although people in the United States strive to treat individuals with all different kinds and levels of disabilities equally, recreation is one area frequently overlooked in including those with disabilities.

“Leisure 4 Life,” the 31st Conference on Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities, presents educational sessions that promote leisure activities and inclusion for all people with disabilities.

The Conference, Thursday, November 1, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 4:20 p.m., Crowne Plaza Monroe, 309 Forsgate Drive, Monroe, N.J., is supported by the Aronow Family Foundation in memory of Evelyn N. Aronow, and is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Commission on Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities and the New Jersey Recreation & Parks Association.

Steven M. Eidelman, the keynote speaker, will present “How Recreation Fosters Inclusion.” Attendees to this session will learn the importance and benefits of recreation in advancing the goals of including people with disabilities in their communities, as well as supporting their families.  Learn trends and predictions for the future, and the role recreation professionals and programs play, among other topics.

Eidelman is the H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Human Services Policy and Leadership, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, at the University of Delaware.

Hand Therapy Specialist Joins the Staff of Advanced Orthopedics

Mary B. Wesley, Freehold, has joined the medical practice of Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI), Freehold. Wesley, an occupational therapist (OTR/L) and a certified hand therapist (CHT) since 1991, will be working at the Freehold location of AOSMI, Pond View Professional Park, 301 Professional View Drive.

Wesley specializes in orthopedic injuries to the hands, such as fractures, nerve compressions, tendonitis, strains and sprains, and other sports-related problems; and conditions that include Carpal Tunnel, arthritis, trigger finger, and Dupytrens.*

Before joining AOSMI, Wesley worked in varied healthcare settings for the past 20 years, providing rehabilitation for orthopedic injuries and surgical patients in Central New Jersey, Freehold, and the surrounding areas.

Chefs Sought for 90th Anniversary Gala at the Strand Center for the Arts

To highlight the 90th Anniversary Gala of the Strand Center for the Arts, the Gala committee is seeking chefs to showcase their signature dishes, samples of one or two menu selections, the evening of October 30, 2012, at the Strand Center for the Arts, 400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, N.J.

Visit OHI at Annual Health and Safety Fair This September 8

Ocean Health Initiatives (OHI) will be participating in the 2012 Annual Health and Safety Fair: Celebrating 36 Years of Good Health, 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, N.J., Saturday, September 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The Long Beach Island Health Department, the St. Francis Community Center and Southern Ocean Medical Center are presenting the fair, which is open to the public.  Free screenings, exams, giveaways, and more will be available to attendees. OHI will be on site to provide health educational information and giveaways, at no cost.

A Day of HR Learning – September Meeting of JSAHR

A panel of HR experts are hosting an interactive, ‘speed’ learning workshop that focuses on six key areas of HR knowledge essential for professional success.

Support the Strand Center for the Arts by Eating at Any Surf Taco

You don’t have to travel south of the border to eat Mexican food and support the Strand Center for the Arts at the same time.  Eat at any New Jersey Surf Taco, Sunday, September 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and 20 percent of the check will be donated to the Strand Center for the Arts. Diners must present the flyer that announces this fundraiser.
