Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles with Good News! Parks Reopen Tomorrow – Property Taxes Deferred

Posted on April 29, 2020 By

Lakewood Mayor Coles has announced that the township will be reopening Lakewood parks and the lake tomorrow April 30, with the exception of Pine Park. All playgrounds, however, will remain closed for the time being.

Because Pine Park is being used for food distribution, an important public service, that park will be open on Saturday and Sunday only.

Mayor Coles reminds everyone to maintain all the social distancing guidelines put into effect for staying healthy during the COVID-19 situation. “It’s very important that we keep the disease curve on the downward trend. In order to do that, we have to keep staying six (6) feet apart from each other; wear masks if possible; try not to touch your face – all the things that should have become second nature to you by now.

“Governor Murphy’s last executive order also allows us to defer the payment of property taxes until June 1st. I know many of us are having a very rough time and I hope this will relieve a little of the stress you are experiencing right now.

“With the nice weather coming, hopefully, we’ll all be able to get out and wave to each other from across the street! So again – enjoy the parks; but, please, maintain your distance, wear a mask if at all possible, and stay safe. I just can’t wait for us all to get back to normal.”

Lakewood Memorial Day Parade Postponed

Posted on April 29, 2020 By

Mayor Ray Coles and the Township Committee announced that the annual Lakewood Memorial Day parade and ceremony scheduled for May 25, 2020, has been postponed because of the COVID-19 situation and its impact on Lakewood. The parade and ceremony will be rescheduled.

Mayor Coles said, “This event is meant to celebrate and foster a sense of community, and to honor the heroic actions of men and women who have served and are now serving in the military. When we all can get back to our normal routines, it is important to us that we come together and enjoy this American tradition as a community.”

The foremost goal of the Township Committee and all Township officials is to keep its citizens healthy and safe. Coles said, “The Township looks forward to hosting the parade and will make information available to the public when a new date is set. Even though the parade is postponed, residents are encouraged to display their pride and display their American flags during the Memorial Day holiday.

For questions or concerns, contact Sarah Kay in the Mayor’s office at 732-364-2500 Ext. 2771 or email skay@lakewoodnj.gov.

Preferred Nurse Pam Miller Makes Masks

Posted on April 28, 2020 By

Pam Miller, RN, Chatsworth, the director of nursing at the Mount Laurel branch of Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services, LLC (PHHC), has been sewing masks with her longtime friend Barbara Wagner, Southampton, N.J.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the friends have made more than 500 masks, using fabric on hand and buying the needed elastic. At first the masks were used for field employees and internal staff at the Mount Laurel office of PHHC. By word-of-mouth, however, people began to call or text what they needed.

Miller said, “We both like to sew and we both help make quilts that are sent all over the world. Sewing masks is not out of character for either one of us.

“Our masks, all of which we donate, have gone to a 55+ community, food bank volunteers, Deborah Hospital, and an oncology facility administering chemo treatments.”

The pair did not want to take any money for the masks so, instead, they ask for donations to the Bridge of Peace Food Bank in Camden, N.J. “We have given the food bank more than $700. The food bank has also received $500 in matching funds. Who would have thought!”

Preferred/Acelleron was named to Great Place to Work (GPTW) and Fortune’s “Best Workplaces in Health Care & Biopharma List” in 2020!”

Compared to 59 percent of employees at a typical U.S.-based health care company, 89 percent of Preferred’s 200 employees reported that Preferred, with headquarters in Eatontown, New Jersey, is great place to work.

This honor is a testament to what we’re building at Preferred/Acelleron and the empathetic culture that we’re cultivating, which continues to strengthen and gain wide recognition in our ever-expanding geographic footprint.”

Preferred is always looking for candidates who have contributed to society in meaningful ways, including putting more back into their communities than they take out. For example, Preferred looks for employees who have volunteered at local charities, nonprofits, or other community-based organizations.
